Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, evaluated his current racing form and emphasized that at 39 years old, he has not lost his edge.
Hamilton said, as quoted by Crash:
My reaction times are still quicker than the young guys. I think I'm a better driver than I was at 22. I was just young, energetic and ruthless, but no finesse, no balance. I didn't know how to be a team player, how to be a leader. Honestly, right now I feel I'm healthier than I've ever been. I'm in such a good place, physically and mentally.
It’s worth noting that at the end of the 2024 season, Hamilton will leave the Mercedes team to join Ferrari, where he will partner with Charles Leclerc from Monaco.
Hamilton also spoke about the challenges the German team has faced after the summer break. Former Formula 1 driver and 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve believes that Hamilton could still capture an eighth world title with Ferrari.
