Ferrari Issues Statement Regarding Drivers’ Disqualification at Chinese Grand Prix

Following the recent Chinese Grand Prix, the press service of the Formula 1 team Scuderia Ferrari HP announced that they will not repeat past mistakes that could lead to the disqualification of both drivers.

It’s important to note that the race was held on March 23 at the Shanghai International Circuit, with the victory of Australian driver Oscar Piastri from the McLaren team.

The results of 27-year-old Charles Leclerc and 40-year-old Lewis Hamilton were cancelled due to Leclerc's car not meeting the minimum weight requirement of 800 kilograms after the race, and excessive wear to Hamilton's car's skid plate. Initially, Leclerc finished in fifth place, while Hamilton came in sixth.

Today, Charles adopted a one-stop strategy, which led to very high tire wear, causing the car to be underweight,” the statement reads. “As for the wear on Lewis’s car floor (the skid block), we miscalculated the degradation by a small margin. There was no intention of gaining an advantage. We will learn from what happened today and ensure we do not repeat the same mistakes.

After two races in the 2025 Formula 1 season, Hamilton is currently ninth in the standings with nine points, while Leclerc sits in tenth place with one less point.

The next race, the Japanese Grand Prix, will take place at Suzuka on April 6.
