At the fifth stage of Formula 1 - the Chinese Grand Prix being held in Shanghai - Canadian driver Lance Stroll from Aston Martin set the fastest time in the first free practice session. His result was 1 minute 36.302 seconds.
Australian driver Oscar Piastri from McLaren came in second, trailing the leader by 0.327 seconds. Third place went to Dutch driver Max Verstappen from Red Bull, who was 0.358 seconds behind the leader.
The session was briefly halted due to a grass fire on a section of the track. Once the fire was extinguished, the drivers returned to the track and continued practicing.
Qualifying for the sprint race of the Chinese Grand Prix will take place on April 19th.
