WBO world champion in the light welterweight division, American Teofimo Lopez was designated as super champion by the World Boxing Organization.
It should be noted that the status of super champion gives its owner the privileges of extending the time of his mandatory defense, the opportunity to immediately become a mandatory challenger for the title if he moves up or down in weight, more favorable terms of prize fund sharing, as well as the opportunity to become a mandatory challenger in his weight after losing the title.
Lopez last fought against Josh Taylor in June of this year. In that confrontation, Teofimo won by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 19 wins (13 by knockout) and one loss in his account in professional boxing.
