The World Boxing Association (WBA) has announced that it intends to organize a bout between the organization's regular lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and absolute lightweight champion Devin Haney.
This initiative follows reducing the number of champions within the association. The day before, the WBA reported that there is already a single world champion in 12 out of 17 weight classes.
Davis, 28, last stepped into the ring against Ryan Garcia. Their fight took place in April of this year. In that confrontation, Gervonta won by knockout in the seventh round. He has 29 wins (27 by knockout) and no losses on his account.
Haney, 24, last entered the ring against Vasyl Lomachenko in May of this year. That fight lasted the entire distance and ended in favor of Devin by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 30 wins (15 by knockout) without a single loss.
