WBA President Gilberto Mendoza has spoken out against a championship bout between David Benavidez and Saul Alvarez, insider Michael Benson reported on Twitter.

WBA president Gilberto Mendoza suggested that WBC mandatory challenger David Benavidez should face WBA mandatory challenger David Morrell, with the winner of that fight challenging Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed world title.
Recall that Benavidez defeated Caleb Plant by unanimous decision on March 26. After the fight, Benavidez said he wants to face Saul Alvarez in September.
On May 6, Saul Alvarez will fight John Ryder. In September 2022, Alvarez defeated Gennady Golovkin by unanimous decision. Alvarez, 32, has 58 wins (39 by knockout) and two losses.
