Turki Alahlshikh, Chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, has voiced his disapproval of the idea to revive 15-round boxing matches.
Turki Alahlshikh, quoted by The Ring
No, I don't support this idea in any way. This is bad for a fighter's health and I would never be in favor of fights going back to 15 rounds. In my opinion, even a 12 round fight could be too much for a fighter's health, but 15 rounds is out of the question. A 15 round fight should never be allowed to happen.
It's worth noting that the idea of reinstating 15-round fights was previously mentioned by Gilberto Mendoza, President of the World Boxing Association (WBA). This format has not been seen since 1987.
On February 22, a rematch for the title of undisputed champion in the light heavyweight division will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between Russian boxers Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
