Former WBC lightweight champion Ryan Garcia shared the details of how he vandalized a hotel room at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills while under the influence of mushrooms and alcohol.
In June 2024, Garcia was arrested and charged with vandalism after he caused damage to the hotel room. Later, the boxer agreed to pay the hotel $15,000 in restitution, and the charges were dropped.
Garcia said in an interview with Ring Champs:
I decided to take a bunch of ‘shrooms, but this time I took too many and I kinda just lost it, bro. I really don’t remember, bro. I was drunk and f***ed up. I was doing stuff that was hurting my career. I swear, I was in a whole different universe. … I was drinking every single day, even the day of the [Haney] fight. I just got so involved in trying to cope with whatever was inside. The turning point was when I said, ‘Damn, I’m f****ng my life up.’ Getting arrested was a big part of it. Almost losing my kid was a big part of it.
Garcia's next fight will be against Rolando Romero at a boxing event scheduled for May 3 in New York, USA.
Garcia last fought against Devin Haney in April 2024. Initially, Ryan won the match by a majority decision, but he was later suspended for a year due to a failed drug test, and the result of his fight against Haney was overturned. His record stands at 24 wins (20 by knockout) and one loss.
