Ben Shalom, promoter for IBO middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr., expressed his continued belief that a match between Eubank and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will take place.
Ben Shalom for BoxingScene
I still believe the fight will happen. I don’t think it was ever gonna be next because Canelo traditionally fights in May and September and we want to see Chris out in February or March but, yeah, I was surprised to see that. We had small conversations and reached back out and that’s all it was.
Canelo last fought against Edgar Berlanga in September of this year, winning the match by unanimous decision after going the distance, successfully defending his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles in the super middleweight division. His record now stands at 62 wins (39 by knockout), two losses, and two draws.
Eubank Jr. fought his last match against Kamil Szeremeta in October of this year, where he won by knockout in the seventh round, claiming the vacant IBO middleweight title. His record now includes 34 wins (25 by knockout) and three losses.
