Nigerian Boxer Olanrewaju Dies During Fight at Age 40

Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju passed away at the age of 40 after losing consciousness during a fight in Accra, Ghana, on March 29, according to the BBC.

Olanrewaju was fighting Jon Mbanugu when he lost consciousness at the end of the third round. He received immediate medical attention and was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead half an hour later.

Olanrewaju began his professional boxing career in 2019. In his debut match, he faced fellow Nigerian Jimoh Nojeem. That fight went the full distance, and Gabriel won by unanimous decision. His record included 13 victories (12 by knockout), eight losses, and two draws.
