The New York Athletic Commission is looking into the controversy surrounding the lack of a knockdown call during the fight between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBA junior welterweight champion Lamont Roach.
The incident in question happened in the ninth round when Davis went down to one knee and then returned to his corner to wipe his face. Referee Steve Willis began a ten-count but decided not to rule it a knockdown.
During the round in question, following the commission's request for the replay video, there was a technical issue preventing the commission from receiving it within the allotted time for review. Therefore, the referee's in-ring decision was relied upon and the fight continued.
The fight between Davis and Roach took place on March 2 in Brooklyn, USA. It lasted the full twelve rounds and ended in a majority draw according to the judges' decisions.
Davis boasts a professional boxing record of 30 wins (28 by knockout), one draw, and no losses. Roach has a record of 25 wins (10 by knockout), one loss, and two draws.
