WBC Silver middleweight champion Jaime Munguia may fight undisputed world middleweight champion Saul Alvarez if he defeats John Ryder in a fight scheduled for January.
According to ESPN, a fight between Canelo and Munguia may headline boxing night in May 2024. Interim WBC champion David Benavidez is also among Alvarez's possible opponents.
Munguia defeated Ukraine's Sergiy Derevyanchenko by unanimous decision in his last fight in June 2023 to win the vacant WBC Silver title. He has 42 wins (33 by knockout) and no losses.
Alvarez last entered the ring in October 2023 against Jermell Charlo. In this confrontation, Saul won by unanimous decision of the judges. He has 60 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws.
