Regular WBA World Champion in the light heavyweight division, David Morrell, spoke about his upcoming fight against WBC interim titleholder David Benavidez, scheduled for February 2 in Las Vegas, USA.
Morrell told reporters during a recent open training session:
David Morrell
He’s been running his mouth, calling me out and disrespecting my name. That’s fine with me, because words won’t save him when we’re face-to-face in the ring. All this trash talk just fuels me. He’s going to regret every word when I make him eat his pride punch-by-punch.
Benavidez last fought against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in June 2024. In that bout, which went the distance, David won by unanimous decision. He currently has 29 wins (24 by knockout) and no losses.
Morrell last entered the ring against Radivoje Kalajdzic in August 2024. This fight also went the distance and ended in favor of David by unanimous decision. He boasts a record of 11 wins (nine by knockout) with no losses.
