Two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez has raised doubts about the accomplishments of his fellow American fighter, Gervonta Davis, in professional boxing.
Lopez said on the podcast It Is What It Is:
You have to really get into it, look at the resume, all the other shit.... There's a limit that you reach, and after that you go to the next, elite level. And if you don't fight at it, you'll never know if you fit it. I've done that a few times. And I haven't seen Gervonta come out of the box.
On June 30 in Miami, Lopez won a unanimous decision against Steve Claggett (120-108, 120-108, 119-109). His record now stands at 21 wins (13 by knockout) and one loss.
The 29-year-old Davis last fought in June 2024, when he scored a knockout victory over Frank Martin in the eighth round. His impressive record includes 30 wins (28 by knockout) with no losses. It has also been reported that the WBA has approved a bout for Davis against Lamont Roach in December of this year.
