Kovalev Reflects on His Loss to Safar: I Felt Like a Vegetable in the Ring

Former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev discussed his disappointing fight against Robin Safar in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net. He explained the reasons behind his lackluster performance.

Sergey Kovalev exclusively for Telecom Asia Sport
I trained well for the fight with Robin Safar. However, the two-year hiatus took a toll. It was such a long pause that on the day of the fight, I woke up feeling burned out, unable to cope with my emotions. It turned out to be a disaster. I had no energy left and felt empty going into the ring. It was like I had already fought in the locker room. I felt like a vegetable in the ring and couldn’t offer anything.

For context, in 2024, Sergey Kovalev lost to Robin Safar by unanimous decision after a knock down in the tenth round.
