On December 26, Japan hosted a fight between Japanese boxer Naoya Inoue and representative of the Philippines Marlon Tapales for the title of undisputed super bantamweight world champion.
The fight ended with Inoue winning by technical knockout in the tenth round.
Inoue, 30, had his previous fight in July 2023, defeating Stephen Fulton by technical knockout in the eighth round. He has 26 wins (23 by knockout) and no losses on his record.
The 31-year-old Tapales previously stepped into the ring in April 2023, defeating Murodjon Akhmadaliev by split decision. He has 37 wins (19 by knockout) and four losses.
