WBA world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin can vacate the association title, according to Sports Illustrated insider Chris Mannix.
Recall that Golovkin previously vacated the IBF title because he refused to make a mandatory defense against Brazilian Esquiva Falcão.
According to Mannix, there is a similar situation with the WBA title because of the Kazakh's reluctance to fight the challenger Erislandy Lara.
Golovkin, 40, had his last fight in September 2022 against Saul Alvarez. That fight ended in Alvarez's victory by unanimous decision of the judges. Last April, Gennady defeated Ryota Murata by TKO in the ninth round. Golovkin has 42 wins (37 by KO) and two losses.
Golovkin, who freed the IBF title, may lose his second belt
