David Benavidez, the interim WBC light heavyweight champion, responded to questions about a potential fight with WBA, WBO, and WBC heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, should the Ukrainian boxer return to the light heavyweight division.
David Benavidez for Sean Zittel
Never say never. Maybe in the future, but as of right now, I’m just focused on these guys. Maybe in five or six years, but in that time, he’ll probably be around 40. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Usyk. He’s the greatest of all time. If I have the opportunity to share the ring with him, I’m not going to say no, but it’s probably going top be the hardest fight I’ve had in my whole life.
Recall that Benavidez will fight David Morrell on February 2, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (USA).
Benavidez last stepped into the ring in June 2024, winning a unanimous decision against Oleksandr Gvozdyk. His record stands at 29 wins (24 by knockout) and no losses.
Morrell's last fight was against Radivoje Kalajdzic in August 2024. That bout went the full distance and ended in favor of David by unanimous decision. He holds a record of 11 wins (nine by knockout) with no defeats.
