WBA World Champion Terence Crawford has stated that while he is capable of knocking out the unified WBA, WBC, and WBO champion Canelo Alvarez, his main goal is simply to secure a victory in their potential fight planned for the fall of 2025.
I don’t have to knock him out, I just have to beat him. I’m not going in there looking for the KO. Could it happen? Yes, absolutely. If he gets hit with a clean shot he doesn’t see, he can be hurt. He’s not a machine, he’s human like me, he bleeds like me. I won’t step in thinking: ‘I can’t hurt him,’ but I also won’t step in thinking: ‘I’ll try to knock him out.’ I’m going to fight my fight, and if the KO happens, then of course I’ll take it.
Crawford last fought against Israil Madrimov in August 2024, winning the match by unanimous decision. In that bout, he claimed the WBA world title and the interim WBO title in the super lightweight division. His record now stands at 41 wins (31 by knockout) and no losses.
On May 3, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Canelo Alvarez will fight IBF champion William Scull. Alvarez last entered the ring in September 2024, winning against Edgar Berlanga by unanimous decision. His career record includes 62 wins (39 by knockout), 2 losses, and 2 draws.
