Imane Khelif, the 2024 Olympic boxing champion, African champion, and Mediterranean Games champion in 2022 from Algeria, has announced her intention to compete at the upcoming 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, USA.
I will give you a straightforward answer: the U.S. president issued a decision related to transgender policies in America. I am not transgender. This does not concern me, and it does not intimidate me. That is my response. [I will aim for the] second gold medal, of course. In America, Los Angeles.
Earlier, in 2023, the 25-year-old was suspended from competitions governed by the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to failing gender eligibility testing. However, after the IBA was removed from the Olympic movement's jurisdiction by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Khelif was allowed to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she won a gold medal.
On February 12, it was revealed that Khelif intends to file a lawsuit against the IBA. Earlier, on November 5, 2024, former President Donald Trump featured her in his campaign video. The Trump administration stated that it would seek to enforce a complete ban on transgender participation in events governed by the IOC.
