Charlo had his last fight against Argentina's Brian Castaño in May 2022. In that fight, Jermell knocked out Castaño in the tenth round. The American had 35 wins (19 by knockout), one loss and one draw.
Alvarez last fought in Mexico on May 7, defeating John Ryder by unanimous decision. He has 59 wins (39 by knockout) and two losses.
