Current WBA, WBC, and WBO champion in the super middleweight division, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, believes that Marco Verde, who is set to make his professional debut next month, will become the next big boxing star from Mexico after he himself retires.
Canelo in an interview with Fight Hype
We have many young fighters, but right now, the most likely candidate seems to be Marco Verde. This kid is going to be one of the best new fighters from Mexico. I have no doubt about it because I've worked with him; he has shared his desire to succeed, and I've seen that he has unique discipline. He has tremendous potential.
Alvarez is scheduled to return to the ring against William Scull on May 3 at a boxing event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Canelo last fought Edgar Berlanga in September 2024. In that match, which went the full distance, Saul won by unanimous decision, successfully defending his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles in the super middleweight division. His professional boxing record includes 62 wins (39 by knockout), 2 losses, and 2 draws.
