No signed contracts yet, but Canelo Alvarez, boxing’s top star, and Terence Crawford are primed to meet on Mexican Independence Day Weekend in September if all is finalized. And as Crawford said all along, it would take place at 168 pounds with no rehydration clause.

Alvarez last entered the ring against Edgar Berlanga in September 2024. That fight, which went the full distance, ended with Canelo winning by unanimous decision and successfully defending his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles in the super middleweight division. His record stands at 62 wins (39 by knockout), two losses, and two draws.

Crawford most recently fought Israil Madrimov in August 2024. Terence won that fight by unanimous decision and claimed the WBA championship title and the interim WBO belt in the super welterweight division. His record consists of 41 wins (31 by knockout) and no losses.
