Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has commented on his experiences working with WBO world champion Teofimo Lopez in the light welterweight division.
Arum said on the Podcasts.apple:
Teofimo sometimes acts like he has a screw loose. I like the kid, but I can’t figure him out, and he makes no logical sense. He signed an extension with us first with the Jose Pedraza fight that didn’t happen, and then when we did another fight with Sandor Martin, he signed the same extension. I assume he showed the lawyer the first contract and not the second. Dealing with Teofimo is like dealing with Alice in Wonderland.
It was previously reported that Lopez declined a fight against former undisputed world champion Devin Haney.
Lopez last stepped into the ring in June 2024, winning against Steve Claggett by unanimous decision. His professional record stands at 21 wins (13 by knockout) and one loss.
Haney last fought in April 2024, losing to Ryan Garcia by majority decision. However, that result was later overturned due to Garcia failing a doping test. Devin has 31 wins (15 by knockout) and remains undefeated.
