Bivol's Coach on Kovalev's Career: Life Circumstances Held Him Back

In an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, coach Gennady Mashianov, who works with Dmitry Bivol, shared his thoughts on Sergey Kovalev's achievements in professional boxing.

Gennady Mashianov for Telecom Asia Sport
Kovalev left a significant mark in boxing history. He was practically an absolute champion. He had many beautiful fights and faced worthy opponents. Sergey did great; he tapped into about 75 percent of his potential. He could have achieved more, but life circumstances held him back. I believe he showed himself well as a boxer, and he also showed his vibrant personality.

For context, Sergey Kovalev held titles from WBA, IBF, and WBO in the light heavyweight division. He also ranked second in the Ring magazine's ratings. On April 19, in Chelyabinsk, he knocked out Artur Mann in the seventh round, having previously knocked down his opponent twice. Kovalev's record stands at 36 wins (30 by knockout), five losses, and one draw.
