WBC interim super middleweight champion David Benavidez said he is ready to return to his initial division only for a fight against undisputed champion Saul Alvarez.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV Benavidez said:
The only fight I'm staying around at 168 is for Canelo. I'm done at 168. If not for Canelo, I'm not going down to 168. I was there for ten years at the pinnacle to fight for all the belts, and they didn't give me the opportunity. So now we're moving up to 175.
On May 5 in Las Vegas (USA) Canelo defeated his compatriot Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision.
Benavidez last fought against Demetrius Andrade in November 2023. In that fight, David won by technical knockout as a result of his opponent's refusal to continue the fight. Benavidez has 28 wins (24 by knockout) and no losses.
