WBC interim champion in the light heavyweight division, David Benavidez, and David Morrell got into a scuffle during a stare-down ahead of their fight scheduled for February 2 in Las Vegas.
The boxers met in Miami for a joint open training session and exchanged some words. Eventually, Benavidez handed his belt to his team and pushed Morrell. They were quickly separated, but Morrell managed to throw his belt at Benavidez.
Benavidez last fought against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in June this year, winning the match by unanimous decision after going the full distance. He boasts a record of 29 wins (24 by knockout) and no losses.
Morrell's last ring appearance was against Radivoje Kalajdzic in August this year, where he also won by unanimous decision after the full distance. He holds a record of 11 wins (nine by knockout) with no defeats.
