The USA bounced back after the upset against Slovakia and made it to the Semi-Finals of Billie Jean King Cup after overcoming Spain.
The USA pair of Sloane Stephens and Danielle Collins finished the business in the Singles set itself. First, Sloane beat Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 6-4, 6-4 to seal the first game. Then Danielle made short work of Sara Sorribes Tormo, getting a lop-sided 6-1, 6-0 win.
Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova headed the affair for the team. Anastasia played an exciting singles game versus Alize Kornet. She lost the first set 5-7 but then showed her strength after taking the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-2.
However, Russia’s in-form player Ekaterina Alexandrova lost to France’s Clara Burel in an upset scenario as Burel won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Anastasia is coming off a great Finals run in Kremlin Cup and also gave Anett Kontaveit a lot of trouble during the title game. But the Russians advanced ahead courtesy of a win in the doubles game.
