Star American basketball player, forward for the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James discussed the possibility of ending his professional career in an interview with Bleacher Report.
The conversation took place on March 31, after the Lakes defeated the Brooklyn Nets in a regular-season game (116:104). James scored 40 points, including nine three-pointers, matching a personal record.
The 39-year-old James confessed that the end of his professional career is approaching. The current 2023/2024 season is the twenty-first of his career. The star has a signed contract for the 2024/2025 season with a payment of $54.1 million, but James has the option to leave the agreement.
I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left.
This season, the forward played in 65 NBA games, averaging 25.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 fouls per game.
James has been an NBA champion four times (2012, 2013, 2016, 2020) and a two-time Olympic champion (2008, 2012). In 2023, James was named the highest-paid NBA player by Forbes ($117.6 million). He also became the first player in the league to score 40,000 career points.
