American entrepreneur and owner of the NBA's Boston Celtics Wyc Grousbeck intends to put the franchise up for sale, as reported by ESPN.
The management board led by the 63-year-old Grousbeckplans to sell a majority stake in the club by 2024 or early 2025. According to Sportico's estimates, the sale of the Celtics could fetch Grousbeckmore than five billion dollars, setting a new record for NBA franchises. Previously, the Phoenix Suns were acquired for four billion dollars by American billionaire Mat Ishbia.
Following the NBA 2023/2024 playoffs, Boston clinched the title by defeating the Dallas Mavericks (4-1). This victory marked the Celtics' eighteenth championship in the club's history. On July 2, the largest contract in league history was signed by Celtics' small forward Jayson Tatum ($315 million over a new five-year deal).
