Canadian point guard Shaina Pellington believes that Rwandese side APR have what it takes to go all the way and win the Africa Zone Five Basketball Championships in Zanzibar, and qualify for this year’s Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA).
Pellington is one of the star players recruited by APR to help them in their quest to rule the continent and she believes the team is well equipped with talented personnel to go all the way.
Speaking exclusively to Telecomasia.net from Zanzibar, Pellington remains confident the team will be a force to reckon with:
I believe we are a really good team and have what it takes to win this. We just need to get our bodies in the best shape because the schedule is tight with minimal rest. It is key how we recover for each game but I know we have it under control. Each game we are capable of coming out with a good game plan and I believe it (the tournament) will be good for us.
The guard starred for APR in their quarter final match where they earned a commanding 78-55 victory over Burundian side Gladiators. She earned a haul of 17 points and had the joint highest efficiency score of 25 on the floor.
The victory booked them a date against fellow Rwandese side Rwanda Energy Group (REG), another star-studded team, in the semi-finals. Pellington believes it will be a tough duel against familiar faces, but has tipped her side to come out top.
