Nigerian women won their nineteenth game in a row in Africa as they overcame Angola 85-65. The D’Tigress squad has now advanced to the Quarterfinals and will meet the winner of the game between Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire. Meanwhile, Angola will have to fight it out in the Pre-Quarterfinals round against Cape Verde.
Nigeria held the lead since the beginning of the game with an 18-5 run and didn’t look back. The team took a 24 points lead to the half and it became clear that the lights are out for a feisty Angola team. Angola outscored Nigeria by four points in the third quarter but the gulf still remained wide. Angola couldn’t trim the lead down in the last quarter and ended up losing by 20.
For Nigeria, Ezinne Kalu top-scored with 12 points, and eight players scored 8 points or more. Ify Ibekwe grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Angola’s Italee Lucas led all scorers by dropping 19 points. While Angola’s Nadir Manuel clinched a game-high 10 rebounds. As a team, Nigeria got hold of more possessions and shot 39% from the floor while Angola just 31.8%.
