Sunrisers Hyderabad has never defeated Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Friday presented a perfect chance and Pat Cummins' side grabbed the chance with both hands, handing the five-time champions a five-wicket victory.

Our record against CSK isn't that great so it's good to fix that one up. We wish we finished that more comfortably, but overall, happy with that win. It was great (win). A few things came together tonight, boys played well. Thought it was pretty clinical. A couple of guys at the top wanted to take the game on but the boys shifted defensive and did really well.
Sunrisers Hyderabad came up with a clinical bowling display as they bowled out CSK for 154 in 19.5 overs. Harshal Patel was the star of the Sunrisers bowling unit as he finished with 4-28 with Pat Cummins (2-21) and Jaydev Unadkat (2-21) making vital contributions.
CSK dropped opener Rachin Ravindra and all-rounder Vijay Shankar replacing them with Dewald Brevis and Deepak Hooda but their batting failed to click once again.
Though Ayush Mhatre continued to impress, unleashing some audacious shots in scoring 30 off 19 balls (6x4), Ravindra Jadeja (21) and Brevis struck 42 off 25 balls, hitting one four and four sixes. Deepak Hooda contributed 22 runs but the rest of the batters including skipper MS Dhoni (6) failed to fire, leaving the bowlers a paltry score to defend.
Chasing 155, Abhishek Sharma was out for zero and Travis Head for 19 as SRH slipped to 37/2. Ishan Kishan scored a vital 44 off 34 balls but Heinrich Klaasen (7) and Aniket Verma (19 off 19) fell cheaply and SRH were down to 106/5 in the 14th over, needing 49 runs for victory.
But just when it looked like things would further deteriorate, SRH found heroes in Kamindu Mendis (32 not out off 22 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19 off 13 balls) as they saw the teams through to victory with eight balls remaining.
It went pretty well. Batters played well, whatever situation they were in. It's just match by match and we are just very proud that we won this match and hopefully coming matches as well. We were looking to play a normal game, not play big shots and put pressure on bowlers and fielders, taking on the big boundary and looking for twos and we comfortably chased it.
Dhoni blamed the batting unit for the defeat as said they were 15-20 runs short on the two-paced wicket which was helping the spinners a bit in the second innings
I think we kept losing wickets and another thing is in the first innings the wicket was slightly better and 157 wasn't a justifiable score. It wasn't turning a lot, a little two-paced but nothing out of the ordinary. Yes, second innings there was a bit of help. Our spinners, the quality was there and they were bowling in the right areas, but we were 15-20 runs short.
Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 154 all out in 19.5 overs (Dewald Brevis 42, Ayush Mhatre 30; Harshal Patel 4-28, Pat Cummins 2-21, Jaydev Unadkat 2-21) lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad 155/5 in 18.4 overs (Ishan Kishan 44, Kamindu Mendis 32; Noor Ahmad 2-42, Anshul Kamboj 1-1) by five wickets.
