Shubman Gill believes the Indian Premier League has reached a point where scoring 300 runs in a T20 match is no longer a far-fetched idea.

The pace of the game has reached a point where it feels like we could score 300 in a match. Last year, we came very close on a few occasions.
According to him, the introduction of the Impact Player rule has made the IPL even more dynamic and unpredictable, enhancing the spectacle for players and fans alike.
One of the tournament’s unique qualities, he noted, is the emergence of new stars every season. “Every day, a new player emerges as a star. You constantly witness underrated talents delivering exceptional performances.”
The combination of frequent matches, relentless travel, and ever-changing conditions ensures that only the most adaptable teams thrive.
If you’re winning, the momentum carries you forward with three, four, or even five consecutive victories. However, injuries can make things difficult. Finding suitable replacements for key players becomes a challenge.
Despite these hurdles, Gill remains unwavering in his belief that the IPL is the most thrilling cricketing event in the world.
Every season brings something new for players and fans alike.
As the competition intensifies and new benchmarks are set, cricket fans will be watching closely to see whether Gill’s prediction of a 300-run game becomes a reality.
Gujarat Titans' Strength and IPL 2025 Prospects
Gill remains optimistic about Gujarat Titans’ squad for the upcoming season, highlighting their strong bowling attack and batting firepower. “We have a strong fast-bowling attack. Rashid has been with us, and we have explosive batters like Rutherford, Philips, and Butler. Some talented Indian players like Mahipal and Sai add depth to our squad.”
According to him, consistency is key in a long tournament like the IPL. “Losing two or three matches in a row isn’t a major concern if you are playing the right way and making smart decisions. The more you play based on probability and logic, the better your chances of qualifying.”
However, once the knockout stage arrives, he believes aggression and positive intent become game-changers. “In all the qualifiers and finals I’ve played, I’ve seen that teams with the right intent have the best chance of winning.”
The Journey of Leadership: Understanding and Evolving
As captain of the Gujarat Titans, Gill sees leadership as an ongoing learning process. He believes that managing players effectively is crucial to success.
Leadership is a continuous journey. You gain new insights with every match and every week. Different players bring different perspectives, teaching you not just about leadership but also about themselves.
One of the biggest lessons for him has been understanding the individual strengths and struggles of each player. “Every player is different, and leadership is about managing them effectively. Knowing their strengths, weaknesses, and how to bring them back into form when they are struggling is crucial.”
His transition into a leadership role has also pushed him to interact more with his teammates, ensuring they feel valued and supported.
The ability to separate captaincy from his personal performance has been another key takeaway. “If you start thinking about your leadership responsibilities while batting, it can take you away from your best game. Batting is an individual battle, whereas fielding is a collective effort.” He admitted that overthinking affected his game last season, and this year, he aims to maintain a clear mindset while balancing both roles.
Early Inspirations: The Sachin Effect
For Gill, the Indian Premier League has been more than just a tournament; it has been a part of his cricketing DNA since childhood. He vividly recalled attending IPL matches at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula with his father and an unforgettable encounter with Sachin Tendulkar and Glenn Maxwell.
I even have a photo with Sachin Sir and Glenn Maxwell. I was throwing balls to them during their practice. These are some of my earliest memories of the IPL.
Gill’s admiration for Tendulkar runs deep, attributing his love for cricket to the legendary batsman. “He was the reason I started playing cricket. My father is his biggest fan. Though my dad never had much interest in posters, we had Sachin’s posters in our village.”
This reverence for Sachin, combined with his father’s influence, laid the foundation for Gill’s aspirations, shaping him into the player he is today.
