The 2012 Olympic Cruiserweight gold medalist started the better of two in the first fight, winning the first round and being on the front foot in the first couple of rounds. He lost some momentum and rounds to Fury in the middle patch of the 12-rounder. After the Ukranian had thrown fourteen unanswered punches and had Fury on the ropes in the ninth round, Usyk was controversially denied a chance to finish his opponent when the referee intervened to stop him from further punching Fury. The referee registered this as a knockdown and gave Fury a standing eight count. Usyk managed the rest of the fight to claim Tyson Fury’s WBC gold and become undisputed heavyweight champion. The 35-year-old Usyk, a Southpaw and former undisputed Cruiserweight champion, has become one of the all-time greats after dominating the heavyweight class despite his size disadvantage.
