Brandon Moreno first won the UFC flyweight crown in 2021 with a near-naked choke of Deiveson Figueiredo in their second meeting after a draw. Moreno would later lose the flyweight title to Alexander Pantoja before the end of 2023. Last year in Mexico City, Moreno lost to Brandon Royval to make it 0-2-1 in his capital city. The number two flyweight contender beat Amir Albazi in Canada last November by unanimous decision to end a two-fight slide. "The Assassin Baby" is 3-2 in his last five fights and must dig deep to give the Mexican fans something to celebrate this weekend.

In the championship contest last May, "Astroboy" came up short with a decision loss to Alexandre Pantoja. Erceg, who had started 2024 with a second round KO of Matt Schnell, was taken out in the first round of their fight by Kai Kara-France in front of the Australian fans in Perth at UFC 305 to end the year 0-2. Steve Erceg, number eight in the UFC flyweight rankings, was trained in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and freestyle wrestling.
