Chinese vendor ZTE is on-track to meet full-year device shipment targets, having shifted 60 million units during the first half of the year.
The result means ZTE has already shipped half of the 120 million units it is aiming to shift in 2011, as part of a strategy outlined to TelecomAsia by executive vice president He Shiyou in April. The vendor’s smartphone ambitions are also heading in the right direction, with five million of its 12 million target sold during 1H11.
Mobile handsets comprised 35 million of total shipments during the period – a 30% increase year-on-year. The remainder of shipments are likely made up of dongles.
While the firm remains strong in its domestic market – it claims shipments of its Android-based Blade are the highest in China at 16,000 units per day – a growing list of global operator partners means much of the growth has come from international markets. In the US, for example, shipments grew 300% year-on-year during the first half.
Partnerships with 65 European operators fuelled a 30% rise in overall handset sales in that region year-on-year, while sales in Brazil grew 46%.
He said the firm plans to launch 30 more smartphones in the back-half of the year “including mid- to high-end smartphones,” units running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 software, “and TD-LTE dual module and dual-waiting models.”
