VNPT posts record $2.4b in revenues in "˜06

(Vietnam News Briefs via NewsEdge) The Vietnam Posts and Telecom Group (VNPT) reported that its revenues for 2006 reached 38.33 billion dong ($2.4 billion), or a 15% increase year-on-year.

In 2006, VNPT signed up an additional 4.5 million telephone subscribers, up 30.54% year-on-year, including 1.22 million landline telephone subscribers and 3.28 million mobile phone users.

The carrier said there were 1.6 million subscriber for VinaPhone network and 1.65 million for MobiFone.

The new figure raises the total VNPT telephone subscriber population to 17.86 million

The carrier also said some 151,000 Internet subscribers in 2006 sign up with MegaVNN, its Internet arm. It said MegaVNN subscribers now total 226,000.

Pham Long Tan, acting president of VNPT's board of directors said VNPT will add more efforts to obtain even better results in 2007

The executive said VNPT will target 42.1 billion dong ($2.6 billion) in revenues and will aim to attract an additional 6.54 million telephone subscribers and 500,000 MegaVNN Internet subscribers.
