(Vietnam News Briefs via NewsEdge) Vietnam's Ministry of Posts and Telecom has turned down a new plan of EVN Telecom for the introduction of its localized mobile phone service, called E-Phone, citing the technology and frequency used for this service compromise frequency planning

A ministry official said that under the license, EVN Telecom is permitted to offer its E-com wireless fixed phone and E-Mobile mobile phone services, but not E-Phone

However, the firm, a subsidiary of the Electricity of Vietnam, began installation of the E-Phone service, but did not report the development to the MPT

'This service affects our frequency and band planning, pricing policies and the network structure,' the official said

Previously, the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) had been allowed trial provision of CDMA-based inter-provincial mobile service, similar to the E-Phone service, in Nghe An, Danang, Hai Duong and Ho Chi Minh City.

The ministry however instructed VNPT to cease provision of the DaPhone service as it also influenced frequency and band planning

Under policy backing frequency and band planning, the ministry can revoke frequencies used for CDMA fixed wireless networks
