Vietnam mobile operator EVN Telecom is due to be privatized in September, with strategic investors from Singapore and Malaysia reportedly lining up for a piece of the 3G operator.

EVN Telecom is owned by the Electricity Telecommunication Company, a subsidiary of government power utility, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).

EVN Telecom Deputy Director Vo Quang Lam told Vietnam Bridge that the firm is finalising details of its September privatization, which involves selling part of the company to strategic and foreign investors as well as staff.

The report says that two investors from Singapore and Malaysia have offered to become EVN Telecom’s strategic partner.

Possible investors could include Singapore Telecom, Axiata or Maxis.

The successful foreign owner must have experience in telecoms and building 3G networks, said Lam.
