Microsoft's success in the UC space has been driven by a number of trends, including ubiquitous IP which has fueled the convergence of broadcasting, telephony and the internet.
"Consumers want more converged services and software is at the center of this converged services network," said Geoff Thomas, Microsoft's GM for Asia for the communications sector.
He noted cloud computing and the rapid adoption of smart devices are also key factors to is UC growth.
Thomas said Microsoft's new enterprise-centric unified communications solution - Lync is designed to work seamlessly within an enterprise's existing IT infrastructure, and deployed without the complexity and cost of an IMS-based solution.
In addition, the open platform provides extensive interoperability across a wide variety of operating systems. "This allows service providers to deliver a series of innovative services, which enables them to increase their business data revenue by working with Microsoft through its hosting partners."
Thomas sees continued consumer demand for using applications across multi-screens. "We intend to continue to work in partnership with service providers in shaping the delivery of connected content, applications and devices."
