A healthy demand for mobile devices has boosted Taiwan’s telecom industry, according to the country’s Industry and Technology Intelligence Services.
The government-linked research body said the domestic telecom sector had increased output by 19.6% year-on-year, to NT$1.21 trillion ($41.11 billion) last year.
Mobile devices such as handsets registered the strongest annual gain at 37.42% to hit NT$507.2 billion. This segment accounted for 41.8% of industry growth.
The services sector grew 1.5% year-on-year, while the network equipment manufacturing segment saw a 19.5% growth from 2009.
Output from Taiwanese company-owned factories in mainland China contributed to 67% of the total telecom sector.
