Thailand's True Corp has announced a free Wi-Fi service for the seaside city of Pattaya.
Visitors and residents will be given five hours a month of free access.
True Online’s chief commercial officer Chaoren Limkangwanmongkol said that the 1,000 access points will cover all of Pattaya’s four major beaches and provide users with speeds of up to 2 Mbps.
While the project is branded as Pattaya Wi-Fi by TrueMove H (True’s 3G MVNO), the launch was made by TrueOnline (True’s fixed line broadband provider).
Ittiphol Kunplome, Mayor of Pattaya city, said the free Wi-Fi would help with the city’s tech image and help attract more tourists who are all using smartphones. He also said that Pattaya would soon be launching a major social media campaign.
