(Satellite News via NewsEdge) Trimble has acquired and tracked the signal from Europe's Galileo test satellite using a prototype receiver that can also receive signals from the US GPS and Russia's Glonass satellite navigation systems.

The Galileo test signal is being broadcast by the Galileo In Orbit Validation Elements-A satellite, which was launched in late 2005 and began operations in January.

The first four satellites in the Galileo constellation are scheduled to be placed into orbit in 2008.
