Australia-based Telstra Global has expanded its Asia-Pacific presence with the launch of two on-net PoPs in Taiwan.
The PoPs connect to Telstra Global's network backbone and are being monitored via the company's NOC, via the company's Customer Control Centre portal.
Telstra Global secured a Type II license in Taiwan last year, giving it permission to operate and sell carrier services to multinational and operator customers within the region.
The company is also licensed to offer in-country billing for Taiwanese customers and buy local loops directly from operators for hosting and virtualization.
According to Telstra Global head of connectivity and platforms Bernadette Noujaim Baldwin, the new PoPs were deployed within four months. “[This] demonstrates our focus and ability to expand rapidly to best support our customers' requirements for flexibility and reach.”
With the launch, Telstra Global can now offer its customers access to more than 2,000 PoPs in 230 countries and territories, the company said.
In other Taiwan market news, South Korea's LG U+ has signed a strategic alliance with Taiwan Star Cellular that will see the former provide its expertise to help with the latter's 4G rollout, DigiTimes reported.
Taiwan Star Cellular plans to launch LTE services shortly and has set a target of covering 95% of Taiwan's population by the end of 2014.
But the operator has not announced a commencement date, even though Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and FarEasTone have all launched services already.
