Australian incumbent Telstra is the 100th firm on optical networking firm Infinera’s books, having picked the firm’s 40G DTN product for a 9,000 km subsea cable.
The carrier’s Telstra International division is using Infinera’s product on its subsea network in Asia, which connects Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. The DTN platform upgrades existing cables with coherent 40 Gbps waves, and paves the way for future improvements to 100G, which will provide Telstra with 7.3 Tbps of capacity.
Martijn Blanken, chief executive of Telstra Group, says the upgrade “will accommodate the needs of our customers now and into the future.” He claims Infinera’s product is the “most reliable and technically advanced DWDM system on the market.”
Telstra is the first carrier to deploy Infinera’s 40G product, and the firm’s 100th customer since it launched in 2004, chief Tom Fallon says.
