Telenor Myanmar has expanded its LTE network to cover more than 75% of the company, and has revealed it is on track to nearly match state-backed rival MPT by covering nearly 300 townships by the end of the year.

Telenor Myanmar's 4G network now covers 255 townships across Myanmar, meaning the company has already exceeded its target of 250 townships by the end of the year.

Now the operator has increased its coverage target to nearly 300 townships. MPT announced last week that it plans to expand its LTE-A network to cover over 300 townships nationwide by the end of the year.

“We want more Myanmar people to enjoy the powerful internet, so we have decided to fast track our network expansion plan to cover more townships this year,” Telenor Myanmar CMO Amaresh Kumar said.

“I am delighted to see our 4G/LTE network being made available so that our customers who will now be able to enjoy the world-class mobile communication and services provided by Telenor.”

Telenor Myanmar first launched LTE mobile services in June last year. The operator has more than 8,000 mobile sites nationwide serving a customer base of around 19 million.

The company has meanwhile been working to optimize its network by conducting nationwide network drive tests using a fully equipped dedicated vehicle capable of measuring signal strength.
