Telenor has executed its earlier announcement to partner with Google for mobile billing for Google Play apps and content on the Telenor Shelf.
Each business unit will be promoting their own, local content on Shelf. All the local shelves can be accessed directly from the Google Play home page or app.
Users in Sweden will be able to use carrier billing from today, Norway and Denmark soon. Closer to home, DiGi and Dtac will follow shortly.
Acording to Rolv-Erik Spilling, SVP and Deputy Head of Digital services in Telenor, the company's app panel will select a maximum of 50 apps from Google Play to will recommend exclusively for Android users.
The agreement with Google also includes the possibility of purchasing apps instantly and charging it to the operator bill. A survey by Opinium of more than 2,000 UK and German smartphone users concludes that 37% of app users pay using operator billing. This shows a growing preference for charging payments to the phone bill rather than to cards or PayPal.
Common for several of the countries is the Bipper-app "bSafe," an app specially designed to turn your smartphone into a safety device.
