(Associated Press via NewsEdge) Spain's Telefonica won a tender for Slovakia's third mobile operators' license, the Slovak Telecommunications Office said.
The office said in a statement that it will allot cellular frequencies to Telefonica 02 Slovakia SRO, a unit of Spain's Telefonica SA, in four weeks' time.
The statement did not say how much the company will pay for the license, but the office's spokesman Roman Vavro had said earlier the winner would have to pay at least 100 million koruna ($3.3 million.)
Telekom Austria and B Four, a consortium led by Czech telecommunications company Ceske Radiokomunikace AS, were the other two bidders for the license.
Currently, the local unit of Germany's T-Mobile International AG and a subsidiary of France's Telecom, Orange Slovensko, are the country's mobile operators.
