Operators worldwide are on the verge of a radical transformation and strategic shift in direction, according to research from Informa Telecoms and Media.
The analyst firm predicts that most if not all operators will commence far-reaching operational transformation projects within the next five years.
The desire to change is being motivated by declining non-data revenues and a recognition of the need to transition from network-driven to service-driven businesses. Increasing network and technology complexities are also playing a role.
Around 85% of operators worldwide view the development of new revenue streams to be their key objective moving forward.
"While efficiency and cost controls are still identified as the most important issue for CSPs, our research indicates these organisations are at the brink of a complete change in strategic focus driven by the need to pursue new revenues,” Informa principal analyst Kris Szaniawski said.
“Business agility, customer experience and new digital service developments will all come to the fore in this increasingly pressurised and competitive industry and managed services are the natural way to implement these changes.”
Operators are finding increased value in managed services, and aim to use them to generate new revenue streams, he said.
